What to expect at your child’s first Occupational Therapy appointment

The overall goal of Occupational Therapy for children is to help them improve their physical, cognitive, and emotional abilities and achieve greater independence in their daily activities.

In your first appointment, expect the following:

  • Initial assessment: The Occupational Therapist will ask questions about your child's development, behaviour, and any specific issues or difficulties they may be experiencing.

  • Evaluation of abilities: The Occupational Therapist will observe your child performing various tasks and activities, such as playing, writing, dressing, etc. to assess their strengths and weaknesses.

  • Goal setting: Based on the assessment, the Occupational Therapist will work with your child and family/carers to set specific, measurable, and achievable goals related to their development and daily activities.

  • Therapy plan: The Occupational Therapist will develop a personalised plan to help your child achieve their goals. This may involve play-based activities, exercises, equipment recommendations, or other strategies.

    • Your OT will regularly review your child's progress and make any necessary adjustments to their therapy plan.

We have a team of Occupational Therapists that come to your child’s home, childcare or school to work with them in an environment where they are most comfortable.

We cover most areas of Sydney. Contact Us to discuss how Occupational Therapy may benefit your child.
